YouTube TV overtakes Dish to become the fourth-largest pay TV provider in the US

Google has announced that its subscription TV service YouTube TV has surpassed eight million subscribers. It is the fastest-growing streaming service in the United States, ranking 4th among all streaming services behind Comcast, Charter, and DirectTV, and slightly ahead of Dish Network.



Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, said that the next frontier for the video streaming platform is to enter people's living rooms through subscription TV services. According to him, the company imagines people invitingly watching YouTube. Thinking about families gathering to watch traditional television together at home, Mohan also revealed that people watch over a billion hours of YouTube content on their TVs on average daily.


YouTube TV subscriptions start at $72.99 per month, making it one of the most expensive streaming services available. However, for that price, users get access to a collection of more than 100 traditional cable channels, including CNN, ESPN, HGTV, and many more, in addition to all the major networks such as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and their local affiliates.


Just like cable TV, YouTube TV subscribers can choose add-on packages that include premium movie channels like HBO or Showtime. YouTube TV competes with traditional cable and DTH operators as one of the largest pay-TV providers in the country. The company's eight million subscribers make it the fourth-largest company in the category, surpassing Dish Network with 6.72 million customers. Comcast leads the list with 14.49 million subscribers, while Charter is in second place with 14.37 customers. million DTH provider DirecTV is in third place with 11.85 million users.
