Discord claims over 200 million monthly active users. Preparing for IPO

Discord announced new tools that will improve its functionality and monetization methods and make it easier for developers to build gaming businesses in Discord. The company also shared some metrics confirming that Discord is an earned communication app. Most popular for gamers worldwide, CEO Jason Citron also revealed that the company is planning to launch an IPO soon.

An update to Discord Quests allows users to earn in-game items like skins and accessories. Through streaming game footage during calls, the company has been experimenting with Quests for the past year. One of the most popular events during that time was the "May 4th" Fortnite Quest, being held in conjunction with Epic Games and Lucasfilm Games in 2023. Going forward, Discord said it would open up Quests to more games, and announced Quests. Supported by more developers, the feature will give users the option to stream gameplay to friends and earn rewards for playing.

Discord is also releasing themed items in its store in collaboration with the game developers Discord Shop launched last year. Allowing users to finally buy frames for their avatars or fancy effects for their profiles, Discord says it offers more than 1.5 billion hours of gameplay across more than 60,000 titles every month. In an interview with Bloomberg, Jason Discord CEO of Citron also claims that the platform has more than 200 million monthly active users worldwide. He confirmed that the company is planning to launch an IPO in the future.
